Changing Seasons

There’s always that moment every year when you walk outside and just know the seasons are changing. The air feels crisp, the mornings are darker, and suddenly your go-to outfits need an extra layer. Every year, it kind of catches me off guard. Oh right, we’re doing this again.

The shift always takes a little adjusting. My energy changes, my routines shift, and I have to remind myself that slowing down is okay. Evenings get dark earlier, which increases my desire to get in bed at 6pm, and I have to remind myself I can’t do that every day.

But I’ll admit that finding things to do when it’s cold out can be tricky. Summer makes it so easy to be out and about, but when it’s chilly, the motivation starts to lack. Lately I’ve been trying to make the most of it: cozy coffee mornings, finding indoor events (or pushing through the cold), cooking more at home, taking drives. It’s a new kind of cozy, and I’m learning to enjoy it.

This season feels like an invitation to slow down without stopping. To find joy in smaller things and create little moments to look forward to. Maybe that’s all we really need when everything else feels like it’s in transition.

Take a few minutes this week to write down five simple things that make you feel good in the colder months — bonus points if they get you out of the house. And if you’re looking for more reminders to slow down and romanticize the everyday, follow along on Instagram @s.idneylauren for more.

A short walk by the river, grabbing a coffee to go, or a trip to the pumpkin patch. The key is not to stop living just because the weather changes. […]
