My “normal” weekend isn’t some elaborate or expensive event filled calendar, it’s just a soft rhythm of things that make me feel connected again while getting centered for a new work week.
It always starts with a hot beverage, not usually coffee. An apple cider or a hot cocoa with fun toppings. Not rushed, just the kind where you actually sit with it, breathe, and remember you’re not late for anything. This weekend, I spent my Saturday morning volunteering at a community event that offered free medical services, haircuts, food pantry, and a clothing closet. We were stationed at the men’s clothes and I got the opportunity to practice my Spanish (it is very rusty..). Seeing people leave with a little more comfort than they came in with and share smiles with us, that’s grounding. It’s easy to get caught up in work and routine, but moments like those remind me that we all have something to give.
Afterward, we ordered food in (because balance), curled up with the dogs, and turned on a documentary while the world outside slowed down. If you haven’t seen “The Perfect Neighbor” on Netflix then you should, despite it being so painfully upsetting. Sunday morning, I ran an errand I’d been putting off, watched some football, then gave the dogs their long-overdue haircuts. It was chaotic but also, weirdly satisfying.
Later that evening, I cleaned up and finally got through a chunk of homework that had been staring me down all week. The smell of fresh cookies baking in the oven felt like the perfect reward. I ended the night watching our favorite show, feet up, completely content.
These weekends don’t look glamorous, but they’re exactly what I need right now. Small doses of productivity, purpose, and rest all mixed together. It’s a reminder that “normal” can still be deeply nourishing.
