The Beginning

After a long day at work it is so tempting to just crash on the couch and scroll your phone or watch TV. I have told myself so many times that I will get out and do something fun tomorrow instead. The problem is that tomorrow often turns into the next day and before you know it a whole week has passed.

What I have learned is that the hardest part is the beginning. When you first start making time for activities outside of work your body feels extra tired. That is normal because you are asking more of yourself than you are used to. If you can push through that stage something shifts. Instead of draining you these activities actually begin to give you energy. Going for a swim clears your head. Biking or paddle boarding fills you with fresh air. Even small things like trying a new smoothie spot or catching a community event can leave you more alive than when you started.

The truth is we are not too tired to live fully. We are often too tired because we are not living fully. Once your body adjusts you start to feel the difference. You realize life feels a lot lighter when you make space for joy outside of your 9-5. Let’s start with adding one activity this week (outside of reading this blog) that you hope to enjoy regularly once we overcome the extra tired phase.
